Afghans for Afghans - 125 completed items!

Congratulations Tallahassee knitters!!  You all created 125 beautiful hand knitted pieces to send to the people of Afghanistan this Summer.   I have 2 boxes now being shipped to the a4A headquarters, full of sweaters, socks, mittens, hats, afghans & more.  I cannot thank you enough for all of your hard work & dedication to making sure we met our goal of 100+ pieces.

I look forward to doing it again next year!!!

In Memory of August Finch - Community Project:

memory blanket

The loss of our son, August, has extended far beyond Pat & I. We know that many of you anticipated his arrival & have shared in our sadness. We have placed a special "August" box at the shop ( in the green room ) where you will find beautiful baby blankets & baby hats, hand knit or crocheted, to be donated to the TMH Bereavement Program. If you would like to participate in this project, please use any natural fiber yarn to knit or crochet a full size baby blanket or baby hat. The program needs donations for very tiny babies as well as full term infants. However, based on my experience, I believe that it is important for Mothers to have a "real" baby blanket for their very real baby. This project will be ongoing as long as there is a need.
You are welcome to make your donations directly to the hospital if you choose. However, it brings us great joy to see pieces being brought to the store for donation in memory of our son. We’ll be sure that they get to the hospital for you. These pieces are very special to the parents who have suffered a loss, as they can hold onto these items as one of the only tangible parts of their experience with their child. I know you will all put a lot of love into these very special items. if you need any help getting started, don’t hesitate to ask.

thank you.

Dear Wooly Bully

Dear Bully,

I should explain something.  I am not the woman you might think I am.  I bet you were expecting someone….taller, someone…cheerier, someone…… Erica, right?  Well, unfortunately, I have a shocking secret to unburden upon you.  I am only impersonating Erica today.  I’m actually Emily.

You might know me as that librarian girl?  Cascade enthusiast?  Reluctant, recalcitrant crocheter?  Chelsea is usually telling me that I’ve gone too far?  I’m there all the time.  Nevermind, it’s okay if you don’t really know me yet.  I’m going to be working to change that in the future.

I have some more bad news.  I know, bad to worse, right?  Shhh, it’s okay to be scared.  I’m scared too (it’s been a very long time since I wrote in public).  I promise I’ll be gentle for our first time.  See, Erica is a busy woman.  It’s sort of your fault, for being so gosh-darned successful.  So, keeping in mind that you are the very best Bully you could possibly be, we’ve stepped in to tell you you’re not alone.  Oh, did I mention I’ve brought friends?  There are going to be a few of us dropping by to keep you company.  I won’t tell you who yet, let’s keep some of the mystery in our relationship (also, I don’t have all of them lined up just yet).  But I can promise you that, while they’re not Erica, they are all unparalleled awesome.

We’re going to get you some really shiny accessories too.  Pictures, contests, polls, giveaways, until you will just not be able to handle anymore.  Prepare to be ravished with shinies, is what I’m trying to say, Bully dear.

With love and tenderness (and a little bit of trepidation),

Emily
