Daybreak Shawl
Wednesday, April 11 + 25, 6-8pm

This has been a really popular project at the shop and every permutation of this shawl I’ve seen is absolutely gorgeous! The Daybreak is a semicircular shawl, featuring clear graphic stripes that echo a rising sun. The generous wingspan allows the fabric to drape comfortably around your shoulders and neck. There is plenty of room to play with color in the three sections of this arched shawl. Check out the Ravelry gallery to get some ideas for color combinations! Instructor: Chelsea, $35

There are three sizes available to knit this shawl - Small (15"x52"), Medium (17"x60"), Large (20"x70").

Supplies

Yarn: Fingering weight yarn - Color A: 135-325yd; Color B: 200-440yd

Needles: US 4-5 circular needle, at least 24" in length (although you may want your needle to be longer)

April Block of the Month

We’ll be covering cables and twisted stitches in April’s Block of the Month class. Hannah has a handful of patterns prepared so you’ll have plenty to keep you occupied ’til May’s installment. If you haven’t joined us before, it’s never too late to get started! Please be sure to bring your pattern folder! Instructor: Hannah, $15.
Materials: 50-75g worsted weight yarn, US 7-9 needles, and a cable needle or slim double pointed needles

Baby Sachiko Kimono

Monday, April 16 and 23, 6-8pm

Kimono-style sweaters are an easy fit for babies: just wrap them in and tie it up! The classic kimono sweater is updated here with a sophisticated color combination, and the design detail of leaving slits at the side. The sweater is also designed to maximize valuable "finish-as-you-go" techniques: the eyelet-garter band worked on the fronts eliminates the need to pick up ribbing; a 3-needle bind-off finishes the shoulder seams at the same time that the back neck is bound off; and the sleeves are picked up and worked from the top down, leaving only a short sleeve/side seam to sew. This is a quick project that would make a thoughtful gift for a new baby.

There are three sizes available–6 mos, 12 mos, or 18 mos.

Yarn: 375-500 yds worsted weight yarn (think washable!)

Colorwork Pouch

A girl can never have too many knitting bags, and by the same token, a girl can never have enough cute little purses to keep her bits and pieces in! This is a super quick and simple notion purse that can be made with any worsted weight, feltable wool yarn. These purses also make great

presents for your knitty friends. Learn basic techniques of colorwork (both intarsia and Fair Isle), 3-needle bind-off, and zipper installation in this pint-sized project. Your finished purse will be felted for extra durability. Instructor: Chelsea, $35.

Supplies

Yarn: Worsted weight, feltable wool - Color A: 50g; Color B: 100g; Color C: 125g (use up your yarn leftovers!)

Needles: US size 10 or 10 ½ 16" circular needles

Notions: 9-inch zipper (and maybe a fun zipper fob?!)

Stay-on Baby Booties

I’ve made my share of adorable baby booties, tried them on the recipient, only to see them kicked off in a matter of minutes. These cute baby booties are worked flat and seamed up the bottom. The pattern is easy as can be and appropriate for a beginning knitter. These work up quickly and are perfect for a last minute baby gift. These will likely become your "go to" shower gift. Sized for newborns to age 6 mos. Instructor: Chelsea, $30.

Supplies: 110 - 220 yds fingering weight yarn, US 1-3 needles

Grrlfriend Market Bag Class
Monday, May 14 and 21, 6-8pm
Join us to make the Grrlfriend market bag, a cute mesh bag. It’s seamless and knit in the round and designed to expand! Not only do these bags make great gifts, they’re ideal to grab for if you’re running to the gym or spending a day at the pool or the beach. First class we’ll be making the bottom of the bag and touch on the mesh pattern. Next class we finish the body of the bag and construct its handle. While the bottom of the bag is worked with smaller needles to guarantee a strong base, the body of the bag is worked in large needles so it’s sure to move along quickly. So pick out a worsted or DK-weight cotton blend yarn and get ready for your snazzy bag. Instructor: Chelsea, $35.

Yarn: 100-150g dk weight yarn - something like Cotton Fleece, Fantasy Naturale, Hempathy, or our brand new linen from Mark and Kattens would be ideal!

Learn to Knit
Wednesday, May 23 and 30, 6-8pm
Join us for this two-part introduction to knitting. This class is perfect for those who want to learn to knit, as well as those who already have some basic knowledge but would like a "refresher" on the subject. You’ll learn about yarn and needle selection, casting on and off, knitting and purling, changing colors and seaming. Your final product with be a cozy pair of fingerless mitts. You’ll leave the class prepared to embark on further knitting adventures. No experience necessary, supplies purchased at time of class. Instructor: Chelsea, $35.

Learn to Knit Socks
Tuesday, May 8, 15 + 22, 6-8pm
Join Chelsea to learn the basics of sock making! They work up quickly with a medium weight yarn. Double Pointed Needles are the most common way of knitting small diameter objects in the round. In this class, you will master knitting in the round, turning the heel (easier than it sounds!), working a gusset & closing up a toe with a grafting stitch. There are lots of techniques involved in knitting a sock and you will findlots of other opportunities to use your newly learned skills. Instructor: Chelsea, $45. Learn to Knit Socks
Monday, Feb. 6, 13, and 20, 6-8pm
This three-part class will walk you through the mysteries of knitting your first sock on double-pointed needles. You only need to know how to knit and purl, and have a desire to embark upon what many people feel is one of the most addictive and fun garments to knit!
Instructor: Chelsea Fox, $45
Materials: approx 200 yards worsted weight wool or wool blend, size US 4 or 5 double-pointed needles

Beginning Knitting
Saturday, February 11 and 18, 12-2pm
Join us for this two-part introduction to knitting. Learn to Crochet
Monday, Feb. 16 and 23, 6-8 pm
Learn the basics of crochet in 2 sessions with Dori. This class is perfect for knitters who would like to add some basic crochet to their arsenal. Crochet comes in handy with lots of knitting projects but it’s also a fantastic and practical stand-alone craft. No experience, no problem, $35 plus cost of materials.

Materials: G or H hook, 50g worsted weight wool or wool blend yarn (lighter colored and nothing too fuzzy)

2 socks on one needle!
Saturday, Feb. 11 and 18, 3-5pm
Learn the tricks to knitting two socks at once, and avoid the dreaded Second Sock Syndrome! In this class we will be knitting toe-up socks in worsted weight, but once you’ve got the hang of it, you’ll have all the skills to graduate to a project using sock yarn on your own. If you’re having any reservations, it’s been our experience that almost everyone who learns this technique becomes a convert. This could be a potentially life-changing class for you. Students should have knit at least once basic sock before coming to class, preferably, $35 plus cost of materials.

Materials: approx 300 yards worsted weight wool or wool blend (wound into 2 separate 50g balls - we can help with this), size US 4-6 circular needle (depending on your gauge) 40-47” long.

Amiga Cardigan
Wednesday, Feb. 8, 15, and 22, 6-8pm
The Amiga class this past fall was such a hit we were asked to offer it again! The Amiga is a simple, lightweight cardigan that’s perfect for our climate in most seasons. The shaping highlights hand dyed yarns especially well, suits every body type and is a pleasure to knit. Using a basic top-down pattern, you can try on your sweater as you go to ensure your desired fit, as well as gently adjust the pattern to your unique preferences, if you wish. Our shop sample was knit with a smooth and drapey yarn made from sugar cane, but others have enjoyed Amiga in wool, cotton, silk, alpaca, all producing unique, elegant garments.
Our first session of this three-part class will cover gauge, to make sure your sweater fits. Please knit a gauge swatch at home, and bring it to the first class. Gauge swatch: CO 21 sts, knit in stockinette stitch for 28 rows, bind off loosely.
Gauge: 17 sts/ 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette st after gentle blocking
Instructor: Chelsea Fox, $50 plus cost of materials

Block of the Month
Tuesday, Feb. 21, 6-8pm -OR- Saturday, Feb. 25, 12-2pm
Build your knitting skills one square at a time. This class is the first in the series. We’ll be discussing color theory, yarn choice, gauge. We have three patterns available for every skill level so you’re sure to find something you like!

Advanced Dye Workshop with Erica!

The two day workshop costs $80, include all materials and three skeins of yarn you’ll be taking home with you.

Each day we’ll be meeting for about three hours. While dyeing yarn is not too terribly messy, you’ll want to wear something that could get dirty. Erica and I will be setting up an outdoor dye studio behind the shop and hopefully the weather will agree with us!

Day One: You’ll explore a dip dye technique with a skein of sock yarn.
Day Two: “Trade Secrets Revealed”
Erica has developed her own method of dyeing - a fusion of several techniques.

We will also be offering another workshop in November. Participants will be chosen in the same manner. More details to come on that session! And if these go well maybe there will be additional workshops in springtime!

Update: Due to the overwhelming interest in Erica’s class and my desire to be as fair as possible, participants will be chosen through a lottery process. Give me a call - 224.2855 or send me an email - and I’ll put your name on the official list. On Friday we’ll pick 6 (maybe 8?) names (thanks random.org!) and then I’ll alert the winners!

Let’s Go Market Bag Class
Wednesday, June 22 and 29, 6-8pm
Join us to make the Let’s Go Shopping market bag cute mesh bag. It’s seamless and knit in the round and designed to expand! Ball Band Dishcloths - so fresh and so clean

Saturday, June 18, 2:30-4:30pm
This one-time class features color changing and slip stitches, and we employ both techniques to create a lovely textured dishcloth. It’s a great project to play around with color. I’d recommend using Fantasy Naturale, a 100% cotton yarn - and only $5.50 for a 100g skein! Make a set, pair with a fancy soap, and give them as gifts. Join us for the afternoon and learn a fun technique, $15.

Supplies: at least 2 colors of worsted weight cotton yarn (~125 yd. each), US 7 needles

Clapotis Shawl
Monday, June 20 and 27, 6-8pm
When it comes to legendary knitting patterns, the Clapotis (pronounced clah - poe - TEE) ranks somewhere near the top. The shawl is knitted on the bias, starting in one corner, and extends to form a rectangle (parallelogram would be more accurate). As it is constructed on the bias, the clapotis drapes beautifully and can really shows off a variegated yarn. The fun part? Stitches are intentionally dropped to form diagonal stripes. In this class you’ll learn how to make increases and decreases, utilize stitch markers and landmarks in your work, and perfect your pattern reading. We’ve knitted this pattern in a fingering weight yarn so the shawl can be worn year round. This is a simple project with impressive results. Participants should be familiar with casting on, binding off, knitting, and purling.

Supplies: US 8 needles, 200 g fingering weight yarn (May we suggest… Ella Rae Lace Merino, Lorna’s Lace Shepherd Sock)

note - a heavier weight yarn can be used and the finished shawl will be proportionately larger

Disaster Management: Fixing your mistakes!
Saturday, June 25,
2:30-4:30pm
Just when you think all is lost and your only recourse is to rip it all out, relax - there is a better way. The purpose of this class is to learn how to identify errors and correct them. Topics to be covered include: dealing with dropped and twisted stitches, tinking and frogging, encountering too many or too few stitches, complications with your cables, and even correcting your lacework. While knowing how to correct mistakes is quite an achievement on its own, we’ll teach you a few tricks to keep them from happening in the first place. We’ll have a series of swatches ready for you to work on, $15.
Bring a crochet hook (something like a US size C or D) and size US 7 needles (straights, circs, your choice), and a little patience.

Spring is officially in the air - or is that pollen? We have some fun classes lined up for April - fresh projects and fresh techniques. Don’t forget Mother’s Day is just around the corner in May and you could make a perfect gift in a few of these classes. Call the shop and we’ll get you signed up! Belted Man Sweater

Friday, April 1, 12-4pm

Join us in making this handsome belted garment. While modeled by a man, a classic silhouette like this would work with any figure! You choose between a sleeved or vested version. Small touches like buttons, wide belt loops, and caboose-camouflaging tunic length make this pattern a winner. This class is not to be missed! FREE

Slip of a Thing Felted Bag

Monday, April 11 and 18, 6-8pm

In this two part class, we’ll construct a cute, colorful felted bag. This little bag uses slip stitch knitting to create a two-color design. You’ll learn about the mechanics of machine felting wool and you’ll get to experience the thrill of watching your knitted piece transform before your eyes! (It almost feels like you’re doing something bad!) Did I mention mistakes seem to disappear during the felting process? It really does all come out in the wash! Finish with an i-cord or ribbon straps. We prefer using Noro Kureyon for an especially pretty effect! $30.

Supplies: 4 balls of Noro Kureyon (2 balls in 2 colors), US 13 circular needle 16" in length

Sagebrush Shrug

Tuesday, April 12 and 19, 6-8pm

This charming shrug is a quick Springtime project knit flat in one piece. It features a nice lace pattern suitable for a beginning lace project. Erica will cover several techniques indispensable to the intermediate level knitter including a provisional cast-on, picking up stitches, grafting stitches together, and using a "lifeline" while knitting lace, $30.

Supplies: 250-280 yards DK or light worsted weight yarn, US 7 needles ( for lace body), US 5 24" circular needle (ribbing of body), US 5 DPNS (ribbing around arms)

The shop sample was completed in Mirasol’s Sawya, a cotton, silk and alpaca blend that’s wonderful to work with!

Intro to Entrelac

Wednesday, April 13 and 20, 6-8pm

Entrelac - French for interwoven. Entrelac creates the illusion of knitted bands woven like a basket. Entrelac is so intriguing - is it woven? Is it seamed? No! This technique is not only fun to work but creates a striking finished effect that is certainly worth the effort. This project can involve lots of turning so we’ll learn a trick that will always keep the right side facing you, eliminating the need to turn.You have the option of fashioning a scarf, a shawl or a pillow in this two-part class. The entrelac design really pops when using a yarn with long color repeats such like Noro Silk Garden, Noro Taiyo, or any of the Kauni yarns, $30.

Supplies for scarf: 480 yards light worsted to DK weight yarn (4 balls Noro Silk Garden or 2 balls Noro Taiyo), US 8 needles

Supplies for shawl: 1150 yards light worsted to DK weight yarn (10 balls Noro Silk Garden or 5 balls Noro Taiyo), US 8-10 needles

Supplies for pillow: 500 yards light worsted to DK weight yarn (5 balls Noro Silk Garden, 3 balls Noro Taiyo), US 7-8 needles

Learn to Knit Continental

Monday, April 25, 6-8pm

While every style of knitting has its own merits and weaknesses, there are some differences that set Continental knitting apart from the English style. Continental knitting requires fewer hand movements to form each stitch and can be more efficient - especially for stockinette in the round! Continental knitting utilizes different muscles and postures which can lessen strain and problems associated with repetitive stress. It’s also a helpful skill when doing stranded colorwork. Come and mix it up with us, $15.

Supplies: bring some worsted weight, pale colored yarn, straight and 16" circular needles (needles appropriately sized for working with worsted weight yarn)

Cabled Baby Hat

Saturday, April 9, 11-1pm
Is it something in the water? It seems like everyone I know if pregnant or having a baby! And this means I need to crank out some baby gifts - PRONTO! Join me and you’ll be walking out of class with an adorable (and completed!) present. We’ll cover knitting in the round, decreasing stitches on the crown, working with double-pointed needles, and if you’re feeling like it, how to adorn your hat with cables, $15.

Supplies: ~65 yards worsted weight yarn, US 7 or 8 16" circular needle, US 7 or 8 DPNs, cable needle or extra DPN

Knitted Knucks

Tuesday, January 11 and 18, 6-8pm
This is one of our favorite mitt patterns! Knit your Knucks from the knuckles down — a fast knit on size four needles. Working down allows you to split the yarn into two balls and knit until the balls run out — achieve extra-long matched-length gloves with no anxiety. Learn to Knit Socks

Wednesday, Jan. 12, 19, and 26, 6-8pm

Join Marianne to learn the basics of sock making! They work up quickly with a medium weight yarn and can soon serve as a treasured holiday gift. Double Pointed Needles are the most common way of knitting small diameter objects in the round. In this class, you will master knitting in the round, turning the heel (easier than it sounds!), working a gusset & closing up a toe with a grafting stitch. There are lots of techniques involved in knitting a sock and you will find lots of other opportunities to use your newly learned skills, $45.

Beginning Knitting

Saturday, January 22 and 29, 11am-1pm
Join us for this two-part introduction to knitting. This class is perfect for those who want to learn to knit, as well as those who already have some basic knowledge but would like a "refresher" on the subject. You’ll learn about yarn and needle selection, casting on and off, knitting and purling, changing colors and seaming. Your final product with be a cozy pair of fingerless mitts. You’ll leave the class prepared to embark on further knitting adventures. No experience necessary, supplies purchased at time of class, $30.

Endless Rose Colorwork Hat

Saturday, January 22 and 29, 2-4pm
Get your colorwork cred and a gorgeous hat that will have everyone asking where you got it. That’s when you get to say, "I made it!" We will talk about and utilize a variety of colorwork techniques including Fair Isle and Intarsia — skills every knitter shouldn’t leave home without. We chose this pattern because it is especially for working with a worsted weight yarn (so many are for using skinny skinny yarn!). We’ve found that it’s considerably easier to grasp colorwork techniques when working with a mid-weight or worsted weight yarn, $30.

Knit a Beanie

Sunday, January 23 and 30, 2-4pm
Are you ready to advance from flat, back-and-forth knitting to something with more dimension? Maria will teach you to knit in the round using circular and double pointed needles as you fashion a classic ribbed beanie. Additionally, you’ll explore how to use decreases to shape the crown. There’s also a cabled option for those of you wishing to try something else new. These beanies make great last-minute gifts. Be forewarned, when your friends and family see your completed beanie, they’ll certainly want one too.
Participants should be comfortable knitting, purling, and casting on, $30

Felted Slippers

Monday, January 24 and 31, 6-8pm
These slippers knit up quickly in a bulky weight yarn (or hold a few strands of something lighter together) and they’re knit flat. If you haven’t intentionally felted anything before, now is the time! Watching your product transform is immensely gratifying and mistakes disappear in front of your eyes as they felt. Dress them up with a little embroidery, a button, or a band, $30.

Greetings!

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. The temperatures have dipped and we’re bundled up! The trees are trimmed and our fires are kindling! I can get a little romantic about Christmas so I’ll get to the point…

Holiday Giving

Every year we look forward to the holidays at Wooly Bully, our time for community outreach. Traditionally, our community outreach has involved "adopting" a family with special needs, however, this year we are faced with a unique situation with a dear friend in need. We’ve decided to focus our efforts this holiday season on raising funds on his behalf.

Charlie Cooper

Charlie Cooper, a close friend of mine and long-time Tallahassee resident, was diagnosed this fall, shortly after his 27th birthday, with stage IV non-small cell lung cancer. The cost of his treatment, in addition to his living expenses are staggering. It is our wish to aleviate whatever stress possible, in this case some of his financial obligations, so that he can focus on healing and fighting his cancer. We’re reaching out on his behalf because we know he’d do the same.

While in the past contributions have included in-kind donations, this year we will only be accepting monetary donations (unless, of course, you happen to have any full O2 tanks sitting around). Again, the funds we raise will be contributed directly to the Friends for Charlie Medical Assistance Fund and no donation is too small! This is a wonderful opportunity to see your donation IMMEDIATELY benefit someone in OUR community!

If you would like to include a card to Charlie and his family, we will happily pass that along. And while I’m asking for favors, I ask that you include Charlie and his family in your thoughts and prayers. I can’t wait to show Charlie and his family how generous and warm the patrons of Wooly Bully are!

You know you want ‘em and they’ve arrived just in time for the Holidays! We’ve been patiently waiting for our shipment for many months now and at last they’re here! Stop by the shop to try out a set!

The new Addi-Click Lace System provides 8 pairs of different sized Addi Lace needle tips, US 4 (3.5mm) through US 11 (8mm), five different lengths of extremely pliable blue cord, 16, 20, 24, 32 and 40 inch, and one connector piece to help store stitches or combine your cords. Like the standard Addi Click set, the Addi Click Lace tips require no tools to change; simply insert the cord deep into the tip, twist and release. The tips will remain secure until you change them.

The Lace Clicks have a level of flexibility not offered by other needle systems. By using either 1 cord or combining 2 cords with the connector, 15 different circular needle lengths can be created for total of 120 different needle and cord configurations! Purchasing 120 different sets of Addi Lace needles separately would cost $1,914! Wowza - that makes the $169 price tag pale in comparison.
