There are a lot changes happening around here & I hope you all will find new & exciting ways to enjoy Wooly Bully & the services we offer.

First, I’d like to thank you all for being great customers . We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each of you over the past few years. You have showed us continued support, even in the declining economy.
2008 has been a difficult year for Pat & myself since the loss of our baby, August. We have been made stronger by your friendship, prayers & thoughts & are grateful that you have been here for us.
We are eagerly anticipating 2009, with a new little girl on the way (expected January 12th). You have supported me through this 2nd pregnancy with hope & compassion and I cannot thank you all enough.
With all the hope & faith in the world, Pat & I believe that we will bring our baby home from the hospital this time. With that in mind, we have made a decision to restructure the shop.
I hope that you all will find this new form of Wooly Bully familiar, as we will continue to offer you as many classes as we can pack into our monthly calendar & we will continue to offer you the very best of affordable natural fibers for all of your knitting, crochet & weaving needs & we will, of course, continue to offer new ways for you to use your knitting skills for good - through our numerous Community events held throughout the year.

Beginning sometime in February 2009, we will shut the doors of our physical location & will operate solely online from this website.
Once the store portion of this site is available, you’ll find even more variety of all of your favorite natural fiber yarns & accessories. You’ll also find new patterns created by Chelsea, Shari & myself - all available for download.
This new portion of the site will be up & running by February, so I encourage you to bookmark it now.
We’ll continue to offer classes & group knitting in a new location. More information regarding this change will be passed along to you very soon.

Pat & I would appreciate your continued support through this transition. While it was a difficult decision to come to regarding the wonderful community established through the shop, we truly believe that this is the best thing for us to do for our family. And I am committed to working hard to establish a special place for all of us to get together regularly. If you have any ideas or concerns, please feel free to express them to me by sending me an email. I’m always happy to know what you’d like to see us offer in the way of products or classes.

Concerned about buying online? No worries, we’re creating a safe method for our local customers to buy from us directly & even arrange for pick up, thus foregoing shipping.

If you currently possess a Wooly Bully Gift Certificate or you have earned Bully Bucks, please use them now.

Again, we sincerely thank you for all of your continued support.

I have been so eager to share this new contest with you guys - but had to wait until a4A was officially closed. Now, it seems its all I am talking about! I hope you will share in my enthusiasm for this next community project which will benefit our local Tallahassee Animal Shelter.

Did you take part in our Tea Cozy Competition last year? It was amazing!! We knitted & crocheted tea cozies - & everyone got really creative!! We hosted a silent auction for the tea cozies & raised $500 for PACE Center for Girls!!

This year is the same idea, only we’re making toys instead AND they’ll be auctioned off to raise money for the Animal Shelter Foundation - benefiting our local facility.
Not familiar with our local Animal Shelter? This is their mission statement:
“To make a positive difference in the lives of homeless animals by educating the community, encouraging responsible pet ownership and providing veterinary care and other resources to support the animals in the care of the Tallahassee Animal Service Center.”

There is a whole list of items they’d like for donations here: http://www.talgov.com/animals/wishlist.cfm - but what they could really use - like the rest of us - is MONEY. (they can also get money from donated empty printer cartridges, so if you have them, drop them off here & I’ll deliver!)

How to participate: Start thinking of a toy you’d like to knit or crochet using natural fiber yarns. You can use a pattern or design your own. These toys will be auctioned off, so your intent should be to create something that will draw the biggest interest, thus the biggest bid!

The dates have not been set in stone, but the auction will take place in November, so start thinking about your design now!!

If you need any help, there are several “toy” groups on ravelry & lots of other information on the web. Let me know if I can help in anyway.

Oh, by the way, this is totally a competition & while people will be able to “bid” on their favorites, they’ll also be able to “vote” for their favorites. And, yes, there will be trophies!!!

Just ask Susan O’Halloran how it feels to have the 1st place trophy from last year’s event!

It’s no great secret that I’m a pretty big geek. I’m not going to go into it here, because it’s embarassing enough to confess these things to the anonymous internet, and so much worse when the internet is going to bring it up at the table in a few days. With evil chuckles.

A long long time ago, right when I was transitioning out of Babysitter’s Club and Nancy Drew, someone gave me a book to read. And I devoured it. And I went into the library, and found the next one by that same author. And then the next one. And the next one. And on and on it went, until I looked around and found that I was a fantasy fan. I’m sure that this caused my parents much glee. But more than that, that reading these books, about strong young women who refused to let anything get in the way of their ideas….well, it sort of made me a feminist, too.

So, I was in Atlanta last weekend, as some of you may be aware. Like lemmings, in all their population density, my geek-people swarmed. And it just so happened that one of the many guests in attendance was the author who is at least partially responsible for, at the very least, spurring my interest in books from childhood to adolescence, and probably a whole lot more.

So what did I do? Reader…..I made her hold my sock.

The loss of our son, August, has extended far beyond Pat & I. We know that many of you anticipated his arrival & have shared in our sadness. We have placed a special "August" box at the shop ( in the green room ) where you will find beautiful baby blankets & baby hats, hand knit or crocheted, to be donated to the TMH Bereavement Program. If you would like to participate in this project, please use any natural fiber yarn to knit or crochet a full size baby blanket or baby hat. The program needs donations for very tiny babies as well as full term infants. However, based on my experience, I believe that it is important for Mothers to have a "real" baby blanket for their very real baby. This project will be ongoing as long as there is a need.
You are welcome to make your donations directly to the hospital if you choose. However, it brings us great joy to see pieces being brought to the store for donation in memory of our son. We’ll be sure that they get to the hospital for you. These pieces are very special to the parents who have suffered a loss, as they can hold onto these items as one of the only tangible parts of their experience with their child. I know you will all put a lot of love into these very special items. if you need any help getting started, don’t hesitate to ask.

thank you.

Dear Bully,

I should explain something. I am not the woman you might think I am. I bet you were expecting someone….taller, someone…cheerier, someone…… Erica, right? Well, unfortunately, I have a shocking secret to unburden upon you. I am only impersonating Erica today. I’m actually Emily.

You might know me as that librarian girl? Cascade enthusiast? Reluctant, recalcitrant crocheter? Chelsea is usually telling me that I’ve gone too far? I’m there all the time. Nevermind, it’s okay if you don’t really know me yet. I’m going to be working to change that in the future.

I have some more bad news. I know, bad to worse, right? Shhh, it’s okay to be scared. I’m scared too (it’s been a very long time since I wrote in public). I promise I’ll be gentle for our first time. See, Erica is a busy woman. It’s sort of your fault, for being so gosh-darned successful. So, keeping in mind that you are the very best Bully you could possibly be, we’ve stepped in to tell you you’re not alone. Oh, did I mention I’ve brought friends? There are going to be a few of us dropping by to keep you company. I won’t tell you who yet, let’s keep some of the mystery in our relationship (also, I don’t have all of them lined up just yet). But I can promise you that, while they’re not Erica, they are all unparalleled awesome.

We’re going to get you some really shiny accessories too. Pictures, contests, polls, giveaways, until you will just not be able to handle anymore. Prepare to be ravished with shinies, is what I’m trying to say, Bully dear.

With love and tenderness (and a little bit of trepidation),

Emily
