Slip of a Thing Felted Bag
Monday, April 11 and 18, 6-8pm
In this two part class, we’ll construct a cute, colorful felted bag. This little bag uses slip stitch knitting to create a two-color design. You’ll learn about the mechanics of machine felting wool and you’ll get to experience the thrill of watching your knitted piece transform before your eyes! (It almost feels like you’re doing something bad!) Did I mention mistakes seem to disappear during the felting process? It really does all come out in the wash! Finish with an i-cord or ribbon straps. We prefer using Noro Kureyon for an especially pretty effect! $30.
Supplies: 4 balls of Noro Kureyon (2 balls in 2 colors), US 13 circular needle 16" in length

Intro to Entrelac
Wednesday, April 13 and 20, 6-8pm Entrelac - French for interwoven. Entrelac creates the illusion of knitted bands woven like a basket. Entrelac is so intriguing - is it woven? Is it seamed? No! This technique is not only fun to work but creates a striking finished effect that is certainly worth the effort. This project can involve lots of turning so we’ll learn a trick that will always keep the right side facing you, eliminating the need to turn. You have the option of fashioning a scarf, a shawl or a pillow in this two-part class. The entrelac design really pops when using a yarn with long color repeats such like Noro Silk Garden, Noro Taiyo, or any of the Kauni yarns, $30.
Supplies for scarf: 480 yards light worsted to DK weight yarn (4 balls Noro Silk Garden or 2 balls Noro Taiyo), US 8 needles
Supplies for shawl: 1150 yards light worsted to DK weight yarn (10 balls Noro Silk Garden or 5 balls Noro Taiyo), US 8-10 needles Supplies for pillow: 500 yards light worsted to DK weight yarn (5 balls Noro Silk Garden, 3 balls Noro Taiyo), US 7-8 needles

Learn to Knit Continental
Monday, April 25, 6-8pm While every style of knitting has its own merits and weaknesses, there are some differences that set Continental knitting apart from the English style. Continental knitting requires fewer hand movements to form each stitch and can be more efficient - especially for stockinette in the round! Continental knitting utilizes different muscles and postures which can lessen strain and problems associated with repetitive stress. It’s also a helpful skill when doing stranded colorwork. Come and mix it up with us, $15. Supplies: bring some worsted weight, pale colored yarn, straight and 16" circular needles (needles appropriately sized for working with worsted weight yarn)
|
|
Cabled Baby Hat
Saturday, April 9, 11-1pm Supplies: ~65 yards worsted weight yarn, US 7 or 8 16" circular needle, US 7 or 8 DPNs, cable needle or extra DPN

2 Toe Up Socks - knit at the same time!
Wednesday, Aug. 11, 18, and Sept. 1, 6-8pm Forever eliminate the scourge of SSS, Second Sock Syndrome! Maria, Wooly Bully’s guru on this technique, will teach you how to work 2 socks simultaneously on 1 long circular needle starting from the toe up. Why two at once? It’s easier to match patterns when using self-striping yarn and you’re guaranteed two socks that are more or less the same size. Since you’ll be working them from the toe-up there’s no risk of running out of yarn! Maria will have a stitch pattern that you can work the socks in to make the project a little tangy, but you can also stick to basics with a utilitarian rib. This class will meet three times. ![]()
Love the yarn above? It’s called Unisono and it’s divine! |

Afghans for Afghans
As in years past, we will once again be participating in the Afghans for Afghans charity/philanthropy this Fall. afghans for Afghans is a humanitarian and educational people-to-people project that sends hand-knit and crocheted blankets and sweaters, vests, hats, mittens, and socks to the people of Afghanistan. Wooly Bully plans to collect these hand knit items and wrap them up and send them to the aforA headquarters. This is a perfect opportunity to tear through your personal yarn stash. Specific guidelines can be found on the afghans for Afghans website. Please read over them carefully. Wooly Bully is offering you an incentive to participate - for every item turned in you will receive a chance to win a drawing for a set of HiyaHiya Interchangeable Needles and two skeins of 100% Cashmere yarn (you pick the color!). If you contribute larger items, you will have your name entered for the drawing in proportion to the size and scope of the item turned in. (yes, a pair of socks or mittens counts as just one item) As an adjunct to collecting hand knit items, we plan on raffling off a Lizard Ridge Blanket. We will be receiving knitted Lizard Ridge Squares (from those of you wishing to make one) and then some Wooly Bullies will block them, arrange them, and seam up the blanket. The more detailed aspects of the Lizard Ridge project will be posted on the Wooly Bully website shortly.

Dear Bully,
I had a really great experience, recently. Like all great experiences, it was accomplished with a fair bit of nerves, a lot of mental swearing, and the need for a cold beer and an enchilada afterwards, but that’s the price you pay, you know?
I just taught my first class. I know! It was the Grrlfriend Market Bag (Ravelry link). I’m not going to lie to you, the first hour of the first class was one of the most (as my mother always puts it) character building experiences of my life. There were a lot of DPNs hitting the floor, is all I’m saying, and a lot of curses muttered under people’s breath. My students were incredibly patient with me, and I did my best to live up to their patience. I am, shall we say, frequently opinionated about some things. I had to learn to take a step back and remember to say "well, this is how I did it, but if that’s the way that works for you, then that’s the way you should do it." I had to rip back some truly impressive tangles.
But you know what? By the second class, everything was coming together.

It might have helped that the air conditioning was working again, but all of a sudden? People were actually having fun. We remembered that we actually like knitting, that we do it because we enjoy it. That they were taking the class because they wanted to learn something new, and that I actually was there because I wanted to teach it. Um. And Marianne was definitely having more fun than most.
These pictures were of the bags that were actually finished that evening, and I hope to get some more to add as some of my other (fantastic) students complete theirs.

(I love how Carol looks like she has the ultimate knitting halo here.)

(Kim looks really proud here, doesn’t she?)
Thanks to all of my wonderful students, who were more patient with me and themselves than I had any right to expect.
Love,
Emily
