New into the shop this week: we just received a massive shipment of Cascade 220, 220 Heathers, and Heritage Sock yarns that are being crammed into the shelves every day. We hope to see many of you local Cascade fans in the shop soon to check it out!
We’re excited to present to you our class offerings for the month of October. Through the holidays we will be featuring many classes oriented around pithy, quick projects, items requiring only a single skein of yarn and projects that are sure to make coveted gifts. If you’d like to see a sample of any of these projects, swing by the shop and take a peek!

Colorwork Socks
Tuesday, October 13 + 20, 6-8 pm
Do you like owls? Do you like socks? Then what could be better than Owl Socks?
In this class, we will look at various techniques for knitting with two colors, as you create a tangy pair of owl socks. You’ll learn how to follow a chart. Knitting stranded colorwork for socks (Fair Isle technique) can be tricky, because it is a less elastic fabric than a regular knit. In this class, we will discuss strategies for compensating for this lack of elasticity and how to keep your tension even.
Students need to know how to knit socks and be able to knit in the round, $25.

Introduction to Needle Felting
Wednesday, October 14, 6-8 pm
 Discover how to exploit the properties of wool and the mechanics of felting to create a 3D figure/object of your choice. Erica will teach you how to take roving (unspun wool) or any wool yarn and create beautiful felted pieces with a barbed needle. Needle felting can be used to add accents to knitwear, cloth or felted accessories. We’ll show you the basics, then how to use needle felting in projects such as bags or clothing. $30, materials included, no experience necessary.

Lizard Ridge Block
Saturday, October 17, 3-5 pm
 We’ll get you started on your first Lizard Ridge Block - it can be the first installment towards a blanket, a trivet, or make another and you have a pillow! The legendary Lizard Ridge Blanket is worked incrementally, block by block. We’ll create the unique, wavy pattern with short rows and changing yarns. After knitting the square takes on a bumpy, egg crate-like appearance. We’ll practive several blocking techniques that will come in handy for smoothing your Lizard Ridge Block and be useful with many other knitted projects we well. Most often, the blocks are knit with Noro Kureyon, known for their amazing color combos. This pattern takes advantage of their lengthy color runs for an stunning effect. Note: participants must know how to cast on and bind off, knit and purl, $20.

Crochet Edging + Seaming
Sunday, October 18, 2-4pm
If you are participating in our Block of the Month class, you won’t want to miss out on this session! You’ll learn how to crochet around each block to create a unified color palette. Using crochet stitches to seam your work will come together beautifully without bulky seams on the backside (that can detract from all the hard work you have put into your afghan!). You’ll love how quickly your blocks will start to come together after learning just a few basics. While this class is targeted to Block of the Month-ers, this is a useful skill for anyone and we encourage you to join along (any Lizard Ridgers out there?). No crochet experience necessary, $20.

Fingerless Mitts
Monday, October 19 and Tuesday, October 27, 6-8pm
Fingerless mitts are a staple throughout the autumn and winter and make wonderful presents to friends and loved ones. Learn how to knit in the round and construct a thumb gusset. Worked in a worsted weight yarn, this project will move along swiftly. You can make the mitts as long as you’d like but you can make a shorter pair with just one skein of Worsted Malabrigo. Those of you wishing to make their mitts a bit more interesting, we’ll offer you a few different stitch patterns to add some texture and dimension. Participants must know how to cast on, bind off, knit and purl, $25.

Beginning Knitting
Saturday, October 17 + 24, 12-2pm
If you’ve never picked up needles before, you’re a little rusty and want some review, or you want an opportunity to work on a simple project with a coach, this is the class for you! Join Regan for this two-part introduction to knitting. You’ll learn about casting on and binding off, knitting and purling, changing colors and seaming. Part of the class is instruction on how to select yarn and compatible needles, so you may purchase all materials at the time of class. Your final product with be a cozy pair of fingerless mitts. You’ll leave the class confident and prepared to embark on further knitting adventures. Enroll with a friend! $25 + cost of supplies.

Button Tab Hat
Wednesday, October 21 + 28, 6-8 pm
Looking to take your knitting to the next level? This is a great opportunity for you to expand your knitting ability beyond the basics. Erica will demonstrate how to take chunky yarn and big needles to create this quick and cozy hat. The added button tab adds a little extra flair. You’ll learn to knit in the round using circular needles and how to decrease & shape the crown using double pointed needles. It makes a great gift for the upcoming holiday season. Our shop sample was completed with only one skein of Araucania Coliumo Multy (70% Wool, 30% Silk) - so it’s decadent and affordable project! Participants must know how to knit and purl before registering for this class, $25.

Log Cabin Washcloths
Saturday, October 24, 3-5pm
The basic Log Cabin method is to start with a central patch, and attach strips around it in concentric layers. After you’ve done a few layers, a pattern emerges that resembles the construction of a log cabin, in which the logs are notched so that they interlock at the corners. You’ll get to play with fun color combos and learn about picking up stitches.
The Log Cabin design is sweet with a vintage flair. Knit all in garter stitch, the process is rhythmic and soothing. This is a great project for newbies just starting out and veterans who seem to return to it again and again. A trio (or quartet) of these washcloths would make a lovely gift along with some handmade soap. Particpants must know how to cast on, bind off, and knit, $20.

Block of the Month/Intarsia Block
Monday, October 26, 6-8pm
Add one more colorwork technique to your repertoire while knitting a cheerful chicken design! You won’t find any funky strands of yarn on the backside of this piece of knitting! We’ll use some of our embellishment ideas from our September block to add finishing touches to this design. Additionally, you’ll learn how to create your own colorful designs for future projects. Even if you aren’t working towards an entire afghan, this workshop with Erica will be a wonderful introduction to the intarsia method! $20.
